Dr. Carney has been a resident of Benicia since she and her husband, Dr. Campbell opened their practice here over 30 years ago. She is a graduate of UCSF School of Dentistry. She also holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in anthropology from the University of Oklahoma and the University of Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.
Dr. Carney is a member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association and Napa Solano Dental Society. She is the first woman to have held the offices of President and Trustee of the Napa Solano Dental Society. She has served as the Editor for the California Dental Association since 2008. Dr. Carney has served on councils, commissions and workgroups on the local, state and national level for her profession.
Dr. Carney is a Fellow of the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the International College of Dentists, national and international Honorary Dental Organizations.
Dr. Carney has always been active in Benicia’s community and has served as president of the Benicia Historical Society and the Benicia Library Foundation. She is active in Soroptimists International Benicia, League of Women Voters, AAUW and Arts Benicia. She and Dr. Campbell are loyal annual participants in the annual Trivia Bee to support Benicia’s Adult Literacy Program.
One of her greatest joys is to help provide oral health care for the babies of those patients who grew up under her care. Dr. Carney believes a baby’s first dental visit should happen before the first tooth comes in. The goal is for the child to never have a cavity or need a filling. By working with the parents from early childhood Dr. Carney tries to help the family promote and practice important healthy behaviors.
